Unique fermented shiitake extract
AHCC® is a complex of nutrients with a unique composition. The product is made from an extract of the shiitake mushroom (Lentinula edodes).
A specially developed production process gives this dietary supplement its distinctive characteristics.
Fermentation process and composition
AHCC® has been produced in Japan since 1989 by Amino Up Co. The company uses a fermentation process that has been refined over the years.
Each production cycle starts with the same culture. This approach helps maintain a consistent composition and high product quality.
The patented process creates a high level of alpha-glucans. These polysaccharides occur naturally in shiitake, but normally in small amounts.
The fermentation process lasts about forty days. Shiitake grows in a specially developed liquid culture medium based on rice bran.
During fermentation, the mushroom converts components of the medium into other nutrients. This process creates the unique composition of AHCC®. The result differs from ordinary dried shiitake powder.
Extraction and processing
After forty days, centrifugation separates the insoluble cell components. A liquid supernatant remains that is rich in alpha-glucans and other nutrients.
This liquid is then spray-dried to produce AHCC® powder. Manufacturers can process this powder into capsules.
The production method helps preserve the delicate natural compounds in the extract.
Producer and quality control
Amino Up shares a strong focus on quality and invests in scientific research to support its products.
The company’s production processes and quality systems meet strict standards. This level of control is important because mushrooms react strongly to environmental factors such as temperature, humidity, and other microorganisms.
For use in dietary supplements, mushrooms grow best under carefully controlled conditions. This approach supports a final product with consistent composition and high quality.
In Japan, Amino Up has worked with leading scientists for many years. AHCC® is widely used there as a dietary supplement. In Europe the ingredient is still less well known.
AHCC® remains a valued and carefully developed ingredient originating from Asia.
