S.A.T.
Thorne Research S.A.T. is a botanical formula for the liver and contains milk thistle (Siliphos®), artichoke and curcumin (Meriva ®). S.A.T. contains highly absorbable forms of milk thistle extract and curcuma.
Phytosome Technology for Enhanced Absorption
The active compounds in milk thistle and turmeric (silybin and curcumin, respectively) are naturally poorly soluble in water and therefore have limited absorption. However, in Thorne S.A.T., both the silybin and curcumin extracts are bound to phosphatidylcholine using Indena S.p.A.’s phytosome technology, which significantly enhances their bioavailability.
Research has shown, for example, that 180 mg of Siliphos® may be more effective than 1,000 mg of standard milk thistle extract. In addition, a human study demonstrated that Meriva® is absorbed up to 29 times better than conventional curcumin.
The active Ingredients in Thorne S.A.T.
Milk Thistle (Silybum marianum)compound is silybin. Thorne S.A.T. contains Siliphos®, a silybin-phospholipid complex (phytosome) designed to improve uptake through cell membranes and ultimately into liver cells.*
Milk thistle contributes to normal liver function and healthy bile production. It also supports the liver’s natural cleansing processes.*
Artisjok (Cynara scolymus)Artichoke extract has been traditionally used for centuries to support digestive health in general and liver health in particular. It helps support bile flow and contributes to the maintenance of normal cholesterol levels. Recent research has also investigated the positive effects of artichoke on lipid metabolism.*
Turmeric (Curcuma longa)Turmeric extracts have been used for centuries in traditional Chinese and Ayurvedic medicine to support liver health.* The primary biologically active compound in turmeric is curcumin, a naturally occurring polyphenol.
