Cruciferous vegetables as natural sources of glucosinolates
What are cruciferous vegetables
Cruciferous vegetables belong to the Brassicaceae family. This group includes broccoli, cauliflower, kale, cabbage, Brussels sprouts, radishes, and rutabaga.

Glucosinolates in food
These vegetables contain a unique group of compounds called glucosinolates. The amount of glucosinolates differs per plant type. Levels can also vary within different parts of the same leaf.

Conversion into DIM
When cruciferous vegetables are chewed, glucosinolates such as glucoraphanin interact with other plant compounds. This forms indole-3-carbinol (I3C). In the stomach, I3C can convert into diindolylmethane (DIM). DIM is then absorbed in the small intestine and transported through the bloodstream.
Effect of cooking on I3C formation
Cooking these vegetables inactivates a compound that is essential for converting glucosinolates into I3C. This reduces the formation of both I3C and DIM. To increase I3C intake from food, cruciferous vegetables should be consumed raw, for example in smoothies, soups, or salads.
Concentrated extracts from cruciferous plants
DIM Builder contains high-dose extracts from broccoli, yellow mustard seed, and white cabbage. These extracts provide natural sources of glucosinolates. The formula also includes zinc and black pepper as supporting components.
With broccoli sprout extract HiActives®
DIM Builder uses the patented broccoli extract from HiActives®. This extract comes from carefully selected and germinated broccoli seeds. Broccoli sprouts contain a much higher concentration of glucosinolates than mature broccoli. Depending on the plant type, broccoli sprouts can contain 10 to 100 times more glucoraphanin than regular broccoli.
After germination, the sprouts are dried, milled, and sieved. This process takes place at low temperatures to preserve compound activity. Heat could reduce the activity of certain compounds.
Black pepper extract Bioperine® for better absorption
Black pepper supports the absorption of several nutrients. For this reason, it is often used in supplements.
This formula uses Bioperine®, a patented black pepper extract standardized to 95 to 98% piperine. Piperine is the active compound in black pepper.
Zinc supports normal hormone balance
Zinc is an essential trace element in the body. The body needs only small amounts, but zinc plays a role in many processes. Zinc supports the immune system, contributes to protein and tissue formation, and supports normal hormone balance.
