The well-absorbed form: choline bitartrate
A stable and effective source of choline
Choline bitartrate is a stable and organic form of choline that suits supplementation well. This compound has good bioavailability, so the body can absorb and use choline efficiently. This makes choline bitartrate a suitable option for people who want to improve their choline intake.
Supporting nutrients in active forms
Choline Complex contains choline and additional nutrients in active and bioavailable forms. The product includes natural forms of vitamin B12: methylcobalamin and adenosylcobalamin. The body absorbs these forms better than synthetic variants. The complex also contains the bioactive form of folate, 5-MTHF (5-methyltetrahydrofolate). This form is directly available for biological processes and does not require an extra conversion step.
Choline as a precursor of acetylcholine
Choline moves actively from the blood into nerve cells. Inside these cells, choline converts into acetylcholine. Acetylcholine is a neurotransmitter that supports signal transmission. This process occurs both between nerve cells in the central nervous system and between motor nerves and muscles in the peripheral nervous system.
Supporting B vitamins
Choline works closely with B vitamins. This explains the addition of vitamin B1, vitamin B5, vitamin B12, and folate (vitamin B11) to this product. This combination supports several functions in the body.
B vitamins support psychological functions
Vitamin B1 and vitamin B12 support normal nerve function. Vitamin B5 plays a role in the synthesis and metabolism of neurotransmitters, including acetylcholine. Vitamin B5 forms part of coenzyme A, which the body needs to convert choline into acetylcholine. Vitamin B1, vitamin B12, and folate also support psychological functions such as concentration, memory, and reasoning ability.
Choline, folate, and vitamin B12 support homocysteine metabolism
Choline works with several cofactors to function effectively in the body. Together with folate and vitamin B12, choline takes part in homocysteine metabolism. These nutrients act as methyl group donors and support methylation processes, including the conversion of homocysteine into methionine.
Synergy between choline and inositol
Choline also works together with inositol. Both substances form components of phospholipids and combine to create lecithin. Through this role, choline supports the structure of cell membranes.
Importance during pregnancy and breastfeeding
The European Food Safety Authority notes that pregnant women often have a higher need for choline. The advised intake during pregnancy is 480 milligrams per day, compared with the standard recommendation of 400 milligrams per day. For women who breastfeed, the advised intake increases to 520 milligrams per day.
This increased need can make additional choline from food or supplements necessary. After birth, choline remains important. During breastfeeding, a newborn cannot produce enough choline independently. For this reason, choline is often added to infant formula to help meet daily needs.
Interaction between choline and folate during pregnancy
Choline works closely with folate, another key nutrient during pregnancy. Folate supports the immune system, which helps protect both mother and child. Folate also plays a role in fetal growth. Folic acid supplementation increases the folate status of the mother. A low folate status increases the risk of neural tube defects in the developing fetus. Folate is the natural form of folic acid that the body uses. This complex contains the bioactive form of folate, 5-methyltetrahydrofolate (5-MTHF).
Use alongside a pregnancy multivitamin
Multi Dag & Nacht® Mama remains the primary choice for pregnant women. When dietary intake does not provide enough choline, Choline Complex can serve as an additional option.
