Superior Absorption: GreenSelect® Phytosome
Green tea has been one of the world’s most valued plants for centuries. The leaves of Camellia sinensis are naturally rich in catechins, a group of polyphenols with powerful antioxidant properties. The most important catechin is EGCG (epigallocatechin gallate), which is responsible for many of the properties of green tea that have been studied.
Thorne Green Tea Phytosome contains GreenSelect® Phytosome®, a patented, caffeine-free green tea extract developed to ensure better absorption than a standard green tea extract. The extract is bound to sunflower-derived phosphatidylcholine using the patented Phytosome® technology. This allows for more efficient absorption, meaning that lower doses are often sufficient.
Why a phytosome?
Many plant-based substances are only absorbed by the body to a limited extent. This also applies to the polyphenols found in green tea. By linking the extract to phosphatidylcholine, a so-called phytosome is formed: a complex that is better aligned with the structure of cell membranes.
Research into GreenSelect® Phytosome shows that this form has significantly higher bioavailability than a traditional green tea extract. According to the manufacturer, almost three times as much of the active ingredients is absorbed.
Decaffeinated GreenSelect®
While regular green tea naturally contains caffeine, GreenSelect® has been specially decaffeinated. This means you can benefit from the catechins without the stimulating effects of caffeine.
The extract is also double-standardised for both total catechins and EGCG, ensuring that every capsule has a consistent composition.
Time-Sorb® technology
A distinctive feature of Thorne is the use of the Time-Sorb® capsule. This matrix ensures a gradual release of the contents, meaning that the active ingredients remain available over a longer period. This complements the improved absorption of the phytosome complex.
Furthermore, the delayed release improves tolerability (for example, reducing the risk of stomach problems caused by EGCG), as it prevents peak concentrations.
