Thorne, pure and results-oriented

Since its founding in 1984, Thorne has been dedicated to producing supplements for doctors and therapists, without the use of ready-made ingredients and unwanted additives that could hinder the absorption or effectiveness of the ingredients.

When prescribing supplements, one must be able to blindly trust the quality of the products. High-quality products are distinguished by their effectiveness: they help better, faster, and where needed. These supplements are also available to consumers in the Netherlands and Belgium via Smeets & Graas.

Ingredients and Production Methods Make the Difference

The use of ready-made ingredients has its advantages and is appealing to many manufacturers. However, ready-made ingredients contain excipients such as masking agents for taste & odor, diluents like lactose, corn starch, preservatives like BHT, and stearates. These substances can, to a greater or lesser extent, cause absorption problems for the active ingredients, disrupt biochemical processes, or cause allergic reactions. By law, however, these excipients do not have to be listed on the label. Only excipients that the manufacturer adds themselves during mixing must be listed on the label. This means that a lot remains hidden from you, the consumer, if a manufacturer uses ready-made ingredients.

Many manufacturers, however, still choose ready-made ingredients because this way they don't need an extensive laboratory, expensive staff, or a lot of time and knowledge to make a product. They prefer to choose quick and high profits instead of good products.

Thorne Works Differently

Thorne supplies doctors and therapists who demand quality, which is why they have their own laboratories and qualified staff to prepare pure, unprocessed ingredients for production. By producing at a low speed, Thorne does not have to use unwanted excipients and can use a minimum of or no desired excipients, which benefits the product's effectiveness.

Since Thorne makes all ingredients to strength themselves and therefore must declare all used excipients on the label, you know exactly what you are taking.

Strict Requirements and Control of Ingredients

The environment has deteriorated significantly in recent decades. Global pollution makes it difficult to find pure raw materials of constant quality. At Thorne, all raw materials, from strictly selected suppliers, are re-tested upon arrival for contaminants such as heavy metals, PCBs, PAHs, etc., to verify that the supplier's analysis certificates are correct. Raw materials that do not meet the required specifications are not accepted.

They also investigate whether the correct botanical variant of purchased herbs has been delivered to ensure that the correct active ingredients are guaranteed in a product. In this way, Thorne ensures that its final products meet the label claim.

Thorne Products Are Taken Seriously

Thorne supplements are widely recognized as a benchmark. Many official institutions use Thorne products for single or multiple studies. These include Columbia University, University of California San Francisco, University of Washington, Oregon Health Science University, Oregon State University, and Tufts University. Thorne Research has produced nutritional supplements for the U.S. Navy for scientific research among its marine personnel.

Extensive TGA, FDA, NSF Certification: Your Guarantee of Quality

Strict daily controls of incoming ingredients, production processes, and final products have led to TGA certification of the followed production methods and procedures by the Australian Department of Health and Ageing.

Thorne is among the only 2% of all American companies (both nutritional supplement and pharmaceutical manufacturers) that received a GMP certificate on the first FDA inspection without any remarks or points for improvement.

Thorne's GMP registration by the NSF-International guarantees that the use of Thorne supplements is safe. Thorne Research's production facilities in Sandpoint, Idaho are inspected twice a year for compliance with NSF-GMPs.
