What is a Phytosome and how can I use it?

The Phytosome form increases absorption of active ingredients and improves systemic bioavailability. Phytosomes are an advanced form of herbal/botanical products that are better absorbed by the body, and therefore more potent and faster acting than conventional extracts. Phytosomes are produced by a patented process where the specific active component is bound to phosphatidylcholine. This binding creates an emulsion that is highly available to the body. Phosphatidylcholine is one of the most important components of the membranes of our cells.

The Phytosome process has been used for many popular quality extracts, including ginkgo biloba, hawthorn, milk thistle (milk thistle), green tea and curcuma. The flavonoids and terpenoids in these botanical extracts lend themselves very well to forming a direct bond with phosphatidylcholine. The choline head of the phosphatidylcholine molecule easily binds with these substances, while that the fat-soluble phosphatidyl moiety provides the emulsion of the bound material. The result is a small microsphere that closely resembles a cell. The term "Phyto" means plant and the "soom" means cell-like. The active is now protected from gastric enzymes and various intestinal bacteria.

How does better absorption ensure better results?

The effectiveness of any botanical depends on the amount of active ingredient that manages to enter the body. So for milk thistle this means the content of silybin, for ginkgo biloba it is the amount of flavonoids and terpenes and for vegetable tea it is epigallocatechin 3-O-gallate. With better absorption, there is more activity due to the increased amount of active ingredient. Phytosomes have greatly increased absorbability.

Which Phytosome product should I take?

One of the most important groups of phytochemicals are flavonoids. As a group, flavonoids are considered the most active and healthy substances available in nature. Below are some of our Phytosome products:

- Boswellia Phytosome®
- Ginkgoselect®
- Greenselect®
- Leucoselect®
- Meriva®
- Siliphos®
