Every Day Tablets

Every Day Tablets has been the most popular variant in the Every Day range for years. This once-daily multivitamin in tablet form is suitable for adults aged 18 and over.

It is a carefully designed formula with essential micronutrients and selected additions. The product is based on recent scientific insights, current data on nutritional status in the Netherlands, and optimal intake levels per nutrient.

Where possible, the formula uses well-absorbed nutrients and compound forms, in the right ratios and with effective dosages. Choices were necessary because a tablet has limited space.

Every Day compares very well with other multivitamins. Many therapists choose it first.

Who it is for

Every Day is designed specifically for adults. Vitals has separate multivitamins for children, older adults, and women who are pregnant or want to become pregnant.

These include Every Day Junior, Every Day 50+, and Every Day Mama. Teenagers and young adults can choose Every Day Basic or Every Day Capsules.

Every Day Powder is available for people who prefer not to swallow capsules or tablets, or who prefer to mix a multivitamin into food or drink. Adults and older adults who want the most complete option can choose Every Day Platinum.

B vitamins

The Every Day multivitamins contain generous but responsible amounts of B vitamins. The formula takes daily needs, average intake levels, lower intake limits, current science, and safe upper limits into account.

It also considers how well the body can convert different B vitamins. All formulas contain the biologically active forms of vitamin B2, vitamin B6, vitamin B12, and folate.

These are the forms the body uses directly. Research shows that they have higher bioavailability in the body.

Vitamin B6

Very high doses of vitamin B6 can in some cases lead to tingling or numbness in the hands or feet. In the Netherlands, supplements for adults therefore have a maximum safe upper limit of 21 mg per day.

The Every Day multivitamins stay far below that level, with a maximum of 4.2 mg. They contain only pyridoxal-5'-phosphate, or P-5'-P, the biologically active form of vitamin B6.

They do not use pyridoxine HCl, which the body must still convert. Research is still looking at whether the side effects mentioned above occur only with pyridoxine HCl, or less with pyridoxal-5'-phosphate.

There are indications that only high doses of pyridoxine HCl are toxic to nerve cells.

Folate

Folic acid, or pteroylmonoglutamic acid, is usually used in supplements because it is stable. This is a synthetic form that does not occur in nature in that form. In food, it occurs as folate.

Folic acid from supplements must first be converted by the body into tetrahydrofolate and then into 5-methyltetrahydrofolate, or 5-MTHF. Research shows that this complex conversion process does not work well in a substantial group of people.

Supplementation with 5-MTHF avoids that problem. The Every Day multivitamins use 5-methyltetrahydrofolate bound to glucosamine salt under the brand name Quatrefolic®.

This glucosamine salt form, from a plant source, keeps the biologically active form stable and supports optimal absorption. Studies show that Quatrefolic® has higher water solubility, stability, and bioavailability.

5-MTHF can also cross the blood-brain barrier, unlike regular synthetic folic acid.

Vitamin B12

Absorption of vitamin B12 from food is a complex process. There are also indications that the reference intake of 2.5 µg per day was set too low.

The need of healthy adults and older adults can vary and may rise to more than 20 µg per day. Because vitamin B12 supplementation is safe and absorption from food and supplements can be difficult, the Every Day multivitamins contain generous amounts.

They provide the biologically active forms methylcobalamin and adenosylcobalamin. Many other vitamin B12 products and multivitamins use cyanocobalamin, a cheaper synthetic form that does not occur naturally in that form.

The body must convert cyanocobalamin into the active forms. During that process, the cyanide part is separated from cobalamin and must then be cleared by the body.

Studies show that methylcobalamin and adenosylcobalamin have higher bioavailability than cyanocobalamin.

Vitamin D

In recent years, European public authorities have concluded that the level for adequate vitamin D intake from food should be higher, at 15 µg. They also concluded that the maximum permitted dose could be raised to 100 µg.

In the Netherlands, the advice is still more cautious. There, 10 µg is considered sufficient and 75 µg is the maximum amount. The reference intake has still remained at 5 µg.

In orthomolecular practice, the value of higher dosages has been recognised for a long time. Leading vitamin D experts advise that the vitamin D status of adults, measured as calcidiol, should be at least 75 nmol/l.

An oral dose of vitamin D3 of about 25 to 75 µg per day is estimated to be needed to maintain that level. The Every Day multivitamins contain generous amounts of vitamin D3, or cholecalciferol.

This form is much more effective than vitamin D2, or ergocalciferol, in raising vitamin D levels. The new Every Day multivitamins also use plant-based vitamin D3 under the name Vitamin D3V®.

It is produced from algae and not from sheep's wool grease, as is the case with most vitamin D3 products. This makes all multivitamins in the Every Day range suitable for vegans.

Vitamin K1 and K2

The Every Day multivitamins now also contain a small amount of vitamin K1, alongside a higher dose of vitamin K2. Vitamin K1 is mainly taken up by the liver and mainly activates clotting factors.

Vitamin K2 has greater bioavailability and is distributed more widely through body tissues. It is therefore more effective in activating other vitamin K-dependent enzymes such as osteocalcin and MGP.

These enzymes help calcium be absorbed well and reach the right place, namely the bones. The body will always use vitamin K first for the vital blood-clotting function.

Because vitamin K2 is much more expensive than vitamin K1, a small amount of K1 is added to support blood clotting first. That allows the K2 to be used for other important functions.

The established reference intake for vitamin K is based on the amount needed for normal blood clotting. It was not based on the optimal dose for other vitamin K-dependent processes in the body.

Vitamin K2 stability

Vitamin K2 is a very sensitive substance. In combination with calcium and or magnesium, the amount of this vitamin in a tablet or capsule can drop quickly.

That makes the use of vitamin K2 in a product with high doses of calcium and or magnesium a technical challenge. Vitals therefore uses a vitamin K2 ingredient with the brand name K2VITAL™ DELTA.

This ingredient remains stable even in a formula with high amounts of these minerals. It uses a patented microencapsulation process that protects the fat-soluble K2 particles with two layers against interaction with other ingredients.

Vitals had an independent laboratory test the stability of K2VITAL™ DELTA, and it performed best in the test. It was compared with other vitamin K2 brands in combination with the ingredients used in Vitals products.

The conclusion was that protecting the K2 is absolutely necessary, that K2VITAL™ DELTA kept the vitamin K2 level stable, and that it was superior to the other vitamin K2 ingredients tested.

Calcium and magnesium from the sea

The multivitamins use calcium and magnesium from the sea under the Aquamin® brand. In the tablets, this allows much higher dosages than with the compound forms used before, while proven absorption remains good.

The magnesium, Aquamin Magnesium, comes from seawater from the Irish Sea. Studies show that it is well absorbed by the body.

In addition to about 35% elemental magnesium, this raw material also contains small amounts of other minerals and trace elements. The calcium, Aquamin Calcium, comes from a red algae called Lithothamnium calcareum.

This algae absorbs minerals and trace elements from the sea and stores them. When alive, it has a red or pink colour. After it dies, it calcifies and turns white or light grey.

Only calcified red algae is harvested, from the waters off the coast of Iceland. In addition to 32% calcium, this raw material also contains 3% magnesium and small amounts of other minerals and trace elements.

The synergistic effect of the natural trace element profile in this calcium and magnesium may partly explain the better absorption and the strong study results.

Trace minerals as bisglycinates

For iron, zinc, copper, and manganese, amino acid chelates are used in the bisglycinate form. In this form, each mineral particle is strongly bound to two molecules of the amino acid glycine.

Minerals in this form reach the small intestine well and are absorbed very effectively. They are also gentle on the stomach, which is especially useful in the case of iron.

Vitals specifically uses the amino acid chelates from Albion Minerals, identified by the TRAACS® trademark. This stands for The Real Amino Acid Chelate System.

This brand was created to clearly distinguish these chelates from other, possibly less stable amino acid chelates. Albion has registered more than 100 patents worldwide that support the process, the science, and the structure of its amino acid chelated minerals.

Choline

Choline has been included in multivitamins for a long time. In most cases, the amount is low, usually between 10 and 30 mg, because not much was known about it.

Today, much more is known. In 2012, the European Commission approved three health claims for choline that apply at a dose of at least 82.5 mg.

Choline is important for normal lipid metabolism, homocysteine metabolism, and normal liver function. In 2016, the United States set a recommended daily allowance for the first time at 550 mg per day, based on clinical research designed to establish daily need.

In the same year, EFSA also concluded that choline is an essential nutrient, but did not set a reference intake. It did set an adequate intake at 400 mg per day, based on average intake in European countries, and not on the US study that arrived at 550 mg per day.

Average adult intake in Europe ranges from 291 to 468 mg per day. That is a clear reason to include a generous amount of choline in a daily multivitamin.

The Every Day multivitamins use choline from the VitaCholine® brand. This brand stands for high quality and has been widely studied.

Lutein and carotenoids

Lutein, zeaxanthin, and meso-zeaxanthin are natural carotenoids. In the body, high concentrations of these substances are present in the retina and the macula lutea.

The body cannot produce lutein and zeaxanthin itself and must get them from food. They occur in green leafy vegetables and in red, yellow, and orange fruits and vegetables.

Meso-zeaxanthin occurs only in very limited amounts in food, such as shrimp, salmon skin, and trout skin and flesh. In the body, it is mainly produced in the retina by conversion of lutein through an enzymatic reaction.

It can, however, be supplemented well. It has only relatively recently become clear that meso-zeaxanthin is a very valuable addition and is preferred over supplementation with only lutein and zeaxanthin.
