Elementair Selenium
Elementair Selenium is based on concentrated mineral drops, or CMD. This is a special seawater concentrate from the Great Salt Lake in Utah, USA. It contains a full spectrum of minerals and trace elements, with almost all sodium removed.
In this product, extra selenium is added in the form of sodium selenate. The product is made through a traditional and natural concentration process that uses the sun.
Ionic form and absorption
The minerals and trace elements in Elementair Selenium are present in dissolved and ionic form, as electrolytes. This means they are not bound to other elements, but exist as separate electrically charged particles.
For example, when magnesium chloride dissolves in water, it splits into Mg2+ ions and Cl- ions. In the body, minerals also occur in this way in fluids such as blood plasma and other intra- and extracellular fluids.
Because of this ionic form, minerals are well absorbed.
Functions in the body
Selenium is an important antioxidant. Certain enzymes, called selenoenzymes, depend on selenium. One example is glutathione peroxidase. These enzymes help neutralize free radicals.
As a result, selenium helps protect cells against oxidative damage. It also supports the immune system by contributing to the production of certain white blood cells.
Selenium is also needed for normal thyroid function. It helps regulate thyroid hormones and supports the conversion of inactive thyroxine (T4) into the active form triiodothyronine (T3).
