Advanced collagen formula for cartilage support

Collageenformule Pro from Vitals combines selected forms of collagen with strong scientific support. The formula includes undenatured collagen types I, V, and X from eggshell membrane (Ovomet®) and undenatured collagen type II (UC-II®).

The formula also contains vitamin C as Ester-C®. Vitamin C contributes to collagen formation and supports cartilage health. These ingredients complement each other in a targeted formula.

Collagen in the body

The word collagen comes from the Greek word kollō, meaning to bind together. Collagen fibers form the main extracellular proteins in the human body.

They provide structure, strength, cohesion, and elasticity to tissues.

Collagen fibers occur in many structural tissues such as connective tissue, cartilage, and bone.

Researchers have identified 28 different collagen types. The most common form in the body is collagen type I, which occurs in tendons, ligaments, and bone tissue.

Other types such as collagen II, V, and X occur in more specialized locations in smaller amounts.

Cartilage mainly contains collagen type II, with smaller amounts of other types such as type X.

All collagen types share a similar structure. Collagen fibers consist of bundles of fibrils. These fibrils consist of strands of collagen molecules.

Each molecule contains three protein chains arranged in a triple helix structure.

Collagen used in supplements always comes from animal sources because plants do not naturally produce collagen.

Undenatured collagen type II

Collageenformule Pro contains collagen type II from chicken cartilage with the brand name UC-II®.

This ingredient is produced by InterHealth, a well-known American supplier with extensive scientific research on this ingredient.

Several human studies have examined UC-II® with positive results.

A key feature of UC-II® is that it contains undenatured collagen. The collagen remains in its natural structure, including its original triple helix form.

This structure allows the body to recognize the collagen as a natural molecule.

Denatured collagen type II differs from this form. Manufacturers produce it through hydrolysis, which breaks the collagen into smaller peptides.

This process alters the molecular structure.

UC-II® therefore requires only a small daily dose of about 40 mg, while denatured collagen type II products often require several grams.

Eggshell membrane

The inner layer of an eggshell contains a thin membrane rich in nutrients that support the development and protection of the chick.

This membrane normally disappears during regular egg consumption.

The Spanish company Eggnovo developed a method to recover this membrane from eggshells that would otherwise become waste.

A natural water-based extraction process separates the membrane from the shell and prepares it for use in supplements.

This mild process preserves the beneficial properties of the eggshell membrane, including the natural structure of its collagen.

Ovomet® contains undenatured collagen type I as well as types V and X.

Because it is a natural ingredient, Ovomet® also provides other compounds including elastin, hyaluronic acid, glucosamine, chondroitin, keratin, lysozyme, and more than 500 different proteins.

Researchers have also conducted several human studies with Ovomet®.

Vitamin C as Ester-C®

The formula includes vitamin C as Ester-C®, a patented form of calcium ascorbate.

This non-acidic form also contains natural vitamin C metabolites such as threonate.

Ester-C® absorbs quickly and remains available in the body longer than regular vitamin C as ascorbic acid.

This longer retention supports effective activity with a lower dosage.

Vitamin C plays an important role in collagen formation. It acts as a cofactor for enzymes involved in collagen synthesis.

These enzymes attach hydroxyl groups to the amino acids lysine and proline within the collagen molecule. This process stabilizes the triple helix structure of collagen.

Normal collagen formation supports the structure and function of cartilage and contributes to bone tissue formation.

Collagen products from Vitals
