Plant extracts for healthy blood lipids

Cholesterol Formula Pro from Vitals combines three plant extracts that researchers have studied extensively. Two of these ingredients originate from the Mediterranean region.

The Mediterranean climate provides abundant sunlight. This climate supports large harvests of citrus fruits and olives, which contain polyphenols. Polyphenols are plant compounds with a similar molecular structure.

Olives and olive oil are widely known for their beneficial properties. Olives naturally contain the polyphenol hydroxytyrosol, which helps protect blood lipids such as cholesterol against oxidative damage.

Blood lipids

Blood lipids are fats transported through the bloodstream to target tissues. The most common types are cholesterol and triglycerides.

The word cholesterol comes from the Greek terms cholè, meaning bile, and stereos, meaning solid. Cholesterol forms part of bile, but it also plays essential roles in cell membranes, hormone production, and vitamin D synthesis.

Triglycerides contribute to cellular energy production and form a protective fat layer around organs.

Blood lipid levels remain tightly regulated to prevent levels from becoming too high or too low.

The terms good and bad cholesterol refer to the transport particles that carry cholesterol through the blood. Cholesterol itself has only one chemical form.

Because lipids do not dissolve in water-based fluids such as blood, the body transports them inside lipoproteins.

A lipoprotein consists of a shell made of water-soluble proteins (apolipoproteins) and phospholipids. Cholesterol and triglycerides are located in the center of the particle.

The most well-known lipoproteins are high-density lipoprotein (HDL) and low-density lipoprotein (LDL).

In simple terms, LDL transports cholesterol from the liver to body cells, while HDL transports cholesterol from body cells back to the liver.

Berberine

Berberine has received increasing scientific attention in recent years. This compound occurs naturally in several plants, including Berberis aristata, also known as Indian barberry or tree turmeric.

In Cholesterol Formula Pro, berberine is isolated from the root of this plant and processed into the formula in a highly purified form.

Berberine supports several aspects of metabolic health. It supports blood sugar balance, contributes to liver health, and supports cardiovascular function.

It also helps maintain normal cholesterol and triglyceride levels.

Berberine supports the regulation of cholesterol and triglyceride synthesis and breakdown in the body. It also contributes to the elimination of cholesterol through bile.

Bergamot extract

The bergamot tree (Citrus bergamia Risso & Poiteau) grows mainly in Calabria, a region in southern Italy.

Producers extract bergamot oil from the peel of the fruit. This oil provides the characteristic aroma of Earl Grey tea.

The fruit itself contains a high concentration of polyphenols with a unique composition.

The bergamot extract used in this formula carries the brand name BPF™ (Bergamot Polyphenolic Fraction®). The extract contains about 38% polyphenols, including neoeriocitrin, naringin, neohesperidin, melitidin, and brutieridin.

The Italian company H&AD produces this extract using a patented extraction process developed specifically for bergamot polyphenols.

Bergamot extract complements the other polyphenols in the formula, including berberine and hydroxytyrosol.

Hydroxytyrosol from olive extract

Hydroxytyrosol is one of the main polyphenols found in olives. It forms from oleuropein as olives ripen.

This compound is known as one of the most powerful plant antioxidants for protecting blood lipids.

Even low doses can provide activity.

LDL cholesterol is particularly sensitive to oxidation. Protecting these particles from oxidative damage helps maintain their normal function.

For this reason hydroxytyrosol fits well in a formula designed to support healthy blood lipids.

The olive extract used in the formula is Hytolive® from the producer Genosa. This extract contains a high concentration of hydroxytyrosol and is produced naturally from olives grown in Spain.
