5-HTP 100 mg from Griffonia extract
5-HTP 100 mg comes from a concentrated Griffonia extract that contains thirty percent active 5-HTP. The 5-HTP in this extract comes from the seeds of the Griffonia simplicifolia plant.
L-tryptophan, 5-HTP, and serotonin
5-HTP is a converted form of the essential amino acid L-tryptophan. The body cannot make this amino acid, so food must supply it. L-tryptophan is present in many protein-rich foods, both animal and plant based, such as soybeans, eggs, poultry, nuts, seeds, and whole grains.
The body converts L-tryptophan into 5-HTP, which is the direct precursor of the neurotransmitter serotonin. 5-HTP also exists in nature, especially in the seeds of the Griffonia simplicifolia shrub.
Griffonia simplicifolia supports memory
Griffonia simplicifolia is a woody climbing shrub that grows in several Central and West African countries. The seeds of this plant are valued because they support memory. These seeds contain 5-HTP, which is the key active compound in the extract.
Optimally concentrated extract
The 5-HTP in this product comes from the seeds through a natural extraction process that protects purity and concentration. The extract contains the safe and optimal standardization of thirty percent 5-HTP. This provides one hundred milligrams of active 5-HTP per capsule. This is a high dose, so one capsule per day is often enough.
More efficient than L-tryptophan
L-tryptophan is a precursor of 5-HTP. Using 5-HTP is more efficient because the body does not need to convert it first. L-tryptophan also crosses the blood-brain barrier with difficulty and depends on other compounds to do so. 5-HTP does not face this barrier to the same extent, so the body absorbs it more easily. About seventy percent reaches the bloodstream after intake.
5-HTP as the precursor of serotonin
After the body converts L-tryptophan into 5-HTP, the brain can convert 5-HTP into serotonin. Serotonin is a neurotransmitter involved in many body processes and several brain functions. It is also a precursor of the hormone melatonin. 5-HTP plays a role in the chain of steps that form these neurotransmitters.
