5-HTP 50 mg

5-HTP, or 5-hydroxytryptophan, is a natural compound formed from the amino acid tryptophan and is a direct precursor of serotonin and, indirectly, of melatonin. 5-HTP is produced by extraction from the seeds of the African plant Griffonia simplicifolia.

A unique formula containing active vitamin B6 (P-5-P)

The 5-HTP formula contains pyridoxal 5'-phosphate (P-5-P), the biologically active form of vitamin B6. This form acts as an essential cofactor in the conversion of 5-HTP to serotonin.

Serotonin

Serotonin is a neurotransmitter in the body and plays a role in, amongst other things, mood, sleep and digestion. Most of it is produced in the gut, but a small amount is also produced in the brain. Serotonin is often associated with feeling ‘good’, but it does much more than simply influence mood.

Melatonin

Melatonin is a hormone produced naturally by the body, mainly in the pineal gland in the brain. It helps to regulate the sleep-wake cycle and the circadian rhythm. Melatonin levels rise at night and fall during the day, which partly explains why it signals that it is time to sleep. It also has functions that go beyond sleep, including immune-boosting effects.

L-tryptophan and 5-HTP are both precursors of serotonin and melatonin. Unlike L-tryptophan, 5-HTP cannot be converted into other substances in the body, such as niacin or protein.
