Vegetables, Fruits, Fish AND Nutritional Supplements!

Many Dutch people would benefit from a nutritional supplement. After all, we (still) eat too few vegetables, fruit and fish. That is the conclusion drawn by the RIVM and the Central Bureau of Statistics from the Health Survey 2014.
Although we would like to eat healthier, for many it turns out to be difficult to realize. The recommendations of 200 grams of vegetables and 2 pieces of fruit per day and fish twice a week are often not met. While these products are packed with vitamins, minerals and other nutrients that are essential for good health. Folic acid, for example, which is abundant in green vegetables, has a role in cell division and homocysteine levels, which are related to heart & blood vessels.
Sensible supplement
Dietary supplements in the form of a multivitamin or fish oil are a welcome addition when healthy eating fails for a while. Supplements can also be valuable in various other situations. For example, an increased need for nutrients with intensive exercise, pregnancy, a vegetarian diet or medication use. The information guide "Nut & Safety Vitamins and Minerals" tells more about this.
.Dietary supplement use
Almost half of the Dutch population uses dietary supplements to supplement their regular diet. Previous consumer research among 1,000 respondents showed that supplements are not seen as a replacement for fruits and vegetables, but as something extra. Promoting general health and improving resistance are the main reasons for Dutch people to use food supplements.
